Caravan privacy screens are a fantastic addition to your kit when travelling. Lightweight and easy to stow they can provide wind, weather and sun protection. Enhancing your privacy and extending your living spaces.
One of the most common questions we receive at campsmart is how do I know which screen to order?
Measuring a roll-out awning for a privacy screen is very easy. You just need to know the length of your awning. The main areas that cause confusion are how to measure. Do you measure for the whole length of the awning or for the roller bar? The answer is either. Read below to find out how best to measure your awning.
Caravan awnings were traditionally made in the USA and so much of the terminology about sizes is in feet. You can use a google calculator to work out the feet to meters conversion.
Awnings are named by the whole size of the awning. So if you have a 13ft awning that means the awning measures from the metal support bar to the metal support bar at 13ft.
This is where people can become unstuck when they order a caravan screen. They order the screen at 13ft to fit a 13ft awning. But of course, you need a slightly smaller screen to fit into the roller of a 13ft awning.

The easiest way to measure for a caravan privacy screen is to measure the vinyl on the roller bar of your awning. Take this measurement to order your screen. So, if the roller bar is 3.7m, then order a screen of 3.7m.

We stock a range of different screens:
The most common source of confusion with screen sizes is when people buy a screen for a new caravan before receiving the caravan and are confused about the sizing of the awning. It is always better to either confirm the size of the awning with the dealer or wait until you receive the van, measure it, and order it. Give us a call if you have any questions, and our team will be happy to discuss.
The final place where people get confused is not knowing what type of awning they have.
A box awning (Fiamma or Thule) requires a different type of screen than the more common roll-out awnings. If you do not know if you have a rollout awning or a box awning, you can contact your caravan manufacturer for advice.
